The general consensus has always been that Mike Ross bucked his party only to secure his own political future. Well now that he has no political future, having opted not to run for reelection or Governor and instead become a lobbyist, we found out today that Mike Ross is just an asshole for the sake of being one. I say this because today he joined Republicans in voting to hold Attorney General Holder in contempt of Congress. Says Ross:
“I believe the people of Arkansas and our nation deserve answers to questions regarding the unsuccessful “Operation Fast and Furious” gun-tracking program. I recognize that holding the Attorney General in contempt of Congress is a serious and significant action, but in this case, it is necessary because the failures resulted in the loss of the life of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent. That fact alone requires a full and transparent investigation, which is not possible if documents are withheld. I voted in favor of holding Attorney General Holder in contempt of Congress as Congress must have the opportunity to review all related documents to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
So what’s this all about? A conspiracy theory:
Holder is caught up in a scandal over what happened during Operation Fast and Furious, one in a series of efforts started under former President Bush, in which firearms owned by the U.S. government are intentionally sold to criminals with the hopes that they can be traced back, and criminal activity can be monitored. One such firearm turned up at the crime scene where border patrol agent Brian Terry was killed.
Republicans cite the case as a national security issue, but they’ve simultaneously turned it into an indictment over what they believe is a conspiracy aimed at taking away their own firearms. They argue that this was all a ploy to expose how dangerous guns can be.
Republicans, lead by the likes of Darrell Issa, are asserting that a botched program started by the Bush Administration and ended by Attorney General Holder and the Obama Administration and the tragic killing of a border control agent due to guns that got away from the trackers, was really an Obama conspiracy to drum up support for gun control…This is all over the nutso paranoia of a bunch of people with gun fetishes and the desperate desires of Republicans to find some way to embarrass the Obama Administration. Issa himself has admitted there’s no evidence of White House involvement in Fast and Furious. It’s become pretty obvious that this is nothing but a witch hunt, and that there’s absolutely no case to it. That investigation Ross says he wants into the death of the border control agent, which should happen? Yeah, Republicans aren’t even focusing on that. In short, Republicans are doing the exact same thing they did with the Clinton Administration to the Obama Administration, and Mike Ross is their willing butt boy. Of course though Ross is too smart to believe any of this nonsense. Say what you will about him, the man isn’t an idiot. No, he’s just being an ass because he can and because he wants to be one.
But you want to know how big of an ass he’s being? Law enforcement officials have asked Congress to end this witch hunt so the AG’s office can focus on doing its job. That’s right, Mike Ross is so determined to stick it to Obama that he’s willing to go along with something that has-
“distracted the Department of Justice in its efforts to assist state and local law enforcement — particularly in the area of violent crime prevention and suppression,”
Thank God this evil little lizard man isn’t going to be around any longer after 2012…But there’s more…
Know where this conspiracy theory started at? Militia men who advocate violent resistance to the government against imaginary gun control efforts. Gee, who knew that Mike Ross would side against cops and prosecutors with someone who could pass for a villain from an old Steven Segall movie?
So there you have it-Mike Ross is helping Republicans go on a witch hunt to embarrass the Obama Administration and he’s willing to keep the Justice Department from doing its job.
