A friend called me with some good news last night.  As she said on facebook:

Huge thank you to Mayor Jordan and the Fayetteville City council for tonights vote on the resolution rejecting corporate personhood!! This makes Fayetteville the first city in Arkansas to pass this resolution and join 140+ other cities across the USA who have taken a stand!! Much appreciation to all of you who came out tonight to show your support and speak on this issue! This is what Democracy looks like!!

I’ll get more details as I have them, but from what I’m told all the city council members present (two were absent) voted yes on this effort.  As I understand it, and I could be wrong, this is part of the Move To Amend effort which is hoping to rally support towards pushing an amendment to the Constitution to end corporate personhood.  The measure is, on its own, largely symbolic, but so many symbolic moves eventually add up.  Other efforts in several Arkansas towns could be underway and with any luck we’ll have several Arkansas communities add their names to this movement.
