It’s official. Steve Womack doesn’t have a soul.
Volunteers from one of our local food shelves travelled to Washington DC recently to meet with Senator John Boozman and Congressman Steve Womack. The purpose of the visit was to provide our representatives with information about the operation of the Loaves and Fishes, Flint Street, Harvest Assembly, and Bethel food shelves.
Instead of listening to these volunteers, Congressman Womack lectured them. He said local charities and government needed to treat food shelf users like “a college kid who misused the family credit card. You need to cut up the card,” he said. “You need to figure out how to fund these programs locally because the Federal government hasn’t got any more money.”
Last week Steve Womack voted against a bill that would end subsidies to corporate farms that report more than $1,500,000.00 in annual revenue. In Arkansas, these subsidies amount to about $500,000,000.00 dollars a year. Most farm workers working on these operations make so little in wages that they qualify for food stamps; Womack wants to cut funding for that program too.
Womack says the federal government doesn’t have the money to help the 99%. But it’s got plenty of money to help the 1%. Food for the poor? Too expensive. Welfare for big agribusiness? What’s five hundred million between friends? Someone get Satan on the line…he needs to schedule private lessons from Womack on being evil cause this douche bag has got him beat. Keep in mind, all of this came on the heels of the news that the NWA food bank, which over 100 food pantries depend on, is suffering due to the bad economy. Just downright sickening.
If you would, see about donating some food to the NWA Food Bank. Hungry families in northwest Arkansas need your help because Lord knows they won’t get it from their congressman. And if you live in NWA, call Womack’s office and let them know just how vile of an excuse for a human being he is. Oh, and after you send those cans from the cupboard to the food bank, send Ken Aden a donation to send the lizard man back to Rogers.
