The Whirlpool Plant in Fort Smith is packing up and heading out of state, taking about 1,000 jobs with it.  Womack offers his constituents some crocodile tears.

Congressman Steve Womack released the following statement regarding Whirlpool’s decision to shut down its Fort Smith plant:

“I am disappointed with Whirlpool’s announcement, and my heart goes out to the employees and their families. Despite the news, I consider the Fort Smith region one of America’s most attractive areas for economic development. It is ideally situated with incredible infrastructure and a quality of life second to none in the country. With a qualified workforce and the supporting institutions, I am confident we’ll find another corporate partner who believes in Fort Smith and the enormous opportunities it offers.”

This after Womack hasn’t lifted a finger to create jobs in Congress and on the heels of him voting for free trade agreements that will send even more jobs packing.  And all his constituents got was that lousy statement.  If ever the pro-jobs bill, anti-free trade Democrat Ken Aden had an opening, this is it.

Wow, what a complete and on target response. I’m glad to see Aden being active early in the campaign. Our Democratic running against Womack last time around began with no name recognition, and squandered way to much time before beginning the campaign. If Aden remains relentless and focused, he will increase his chances. It is an uphill climb, but he is beginning in the right way.
